REAL Collaboration delivers REAL results for Fulton Hogan: Advertising & Marketing Campaign

Brisbane Commercial Advertising and Marketing Photography

Case Study: REAL Collaboration delivers REAL results for Clients Fulton Hogan

Concept:

LP Commercial Photography collaborated with Cross Copywriting & Creative to plan and create marketing and advertising imagery for a new marketing campaign for Fulton Hogan featuring their core values - combining the message that diversity = strength with Fulton Hogan's core people values - the REAL values

Message:

The REAL people of Fulton Hogan campaign was centred around the message that there is strength in diversity, which should be celebrated in all its forms

The Client:

Fulton Hogan Construction is a leading, fully integrated civil construction and maintenance business that has been building, maintaining and connecting the Asia Pacific Region for over 80 years. One of their key people values is known as the REAL values, which stand for Respect, Energy & Effort, Attitude and Leadership. Fulton Hogan’s REAL values are promoted company wide.

The business identified diversity as a key driver of their business and asked Cross Copywriting and Creative to conceptualise and deliver an internal campaign that would to put diversity front and centre and LP Commercial to create the imagery to align with this vision.

CC+C and LP Commercial collaborated their skills to successfully complete the project. CC+C presented a strategically sound creative concept that not only resonated with staff, but also had potential for a recruitment drive, to attract REAL people. We created professional, emotive imagery with their staff on site portraying those REAL people. The concept combined the message that diversity = strength with Fulton Hogan's core people values - the REAL values.

The Collaboration - Words from the client

LP Commercial Photography partnered with CC+C to deliver the marketing and advertising images for the HR campaign for Fulton Hogan Construction – the REAL People of Fulton Hogan.

Testimonial words from our collaborative client Philippa (CC+C)

“CC+C tasked LP Commercial Photography to capture eye-catching images that would drive home the strategic message that there is strength in diversity, emotive photos that drives home the benefits and beauty of strength in difference.

LP Commercial Photography added value to the overall campaign from the moment they were approached, investing themselves in the outcome of the project.

They guided the client and CC+C on the process involved in shooting a large number of laypeople on a live construction site. They were cognisant of the workplace health and safety requirements, attending a site induction before commencing the shoot on the day.

Andrew and Emily planned the shoot to minimise the impact of their presence on site. They selected an area on the site that would serve to produce enough variety in the shots themselves without impacting on the site itself. They saw in an active construction site how a piece of discarded metal or a temporary retaining wall would translate into beauty in photos.

The resulting images surpassed the expectations of the client who has already been in touch about a second shoot for a Fulton Hogan branding campaign.

The images were used in block mounted A1 posters to display in all FH offices around Australia and NZ. Flyers and post cards were also produced.

The posters were unveiled at the National Launch of the Diversity Strategy in an event in Qld attended by FH directors and board members from around the country.

Not only is everyone at Fulton Hogan who sees them extraordinarily impressed, but the project became the first in many collaborative efforts between CC+C and LP Commercial Photography.”

The two businesses have since partnered frequently on a variety of other successful projects. The relationship allows each creative professional to focus entirely on what they do best, trusting each other to do the same. The end result is always greater than the sum of its parts: Excellent Words and Perfect Picture that surpass client expectations every time.

Capturing a Fitness Seminar Event for RP Strength: Stills, Videography + Candid Moments

Brief:

LP Commercial Photography photographed and videoed the Renaissance Periodization Strength Fitness Seminar in Brisbane over two days, June 15-16 2019. The health and fitness event featured doctors from America including Mike Israetel, James Hoffmann, Gabrielle Fundaro, and Melissa Davis presenting up to date, evidence based health and fitness information to optimise your training performance, physique & go in depth into the mental aspect of dieting & just as importantly, post-dieting.

We captured a variety of stills photography, candid event photography, group photography, speaker portraits as well as behind the scenes on interviews. This was then teamed with videography of the day, speaker interviews, testimonials from people in the audience, environment footage to create a social media video to promote and reflect on the event’s success. These images and video will be used to promote the event for future years.

See our highlight video below, the speakers interviews and images from the day below.

Product Photography - Thinking beyond the box: Brisbane Commercial Photography

The humble product photograph gets a bad rap sometimes. Big brands with matching budgets do some amazing work with water splashes, beautiful day long studio sessions for a single image or even hours placing individual sesame seeds on a burger bun by a team of food designers to ensure the most delicious looking food product that simply can’t be replicated in the real restaurant.

But many smaller and medium sized businesses don’t feel they have the budget for such things and instead think along the lines of the pure white background studio style catalogue product shot for ease and fast turn around.

And while that work also has a massive place in this word of internet shopping and online shop pages on a website, it’s well worth taking some time to think about what can be achieved with just a few drops of creativity, a little time and bringing on board the right people.

Lifestyle product shots are a classic way of pushing slightly out of the box to not only show the item itself but also build an emotional context around it and pushing the aspirational aspects of the product or highlighting its key points of difference in its market.

Emily recently undertook a shoot for a small local ‘one-lady band’ jewellery maker. Budget was tight, it would have been easy to do a simple in studio catalogue shoot but these beautiful pieces are individually hand dried flora encased in resin, freezing their beauty for all time.

A sterile studio shoot seemed such a waste and so instead we celebrated the essence of the product and took it back to nature sourcing a beautiful roof top swimming pool garden in the CBD where we could work with models, the garden features and the sophistication of the surroundings to present the product in such a way that highlighted both the up-market luxury brand of the hand crafted pieces but also the organic foundation in nature.

Despite the lifestyle nature of the shoot the half day spent on location enabled us to create enough varied images to satisfy a wide range of usage from online selling store images to social media, website intro pages and general marketing material images.

Now you may be thinking, “hey that’s cool, but doing this with jewellery seems logical and quite easy… I make widgets, how do you get creative with that?”

Well another recent shoot I (Andy) did was with a local metals company that sell metal bars and strips in copper, bronze, iron and so on. The initial meeting with the client went along the lines of “Yep we have these products and need a load of product shots which show it exactly as it is for the catalogue side of our website but we also want to do something more but we haven’t got a clue how to do that and we need ideas”.

Essentially this company, like most of their competitors, were used to dealing with their standard clients in the construction industry etc who were very straight and linear in their approach. They need a piece of metal this circumference and this long and they want to simply see that the company has it and then they want to buy it (this is where the clinical studio product shot is king…. It shows exactly what is on offer).

But they also had realised that their customers were changing and now started to include architects, installation artists, interior designers and more artistic individuals who were buying metals direct or were becoming key influencers over there standard customers.

As a result they wanted images that could take them into a new zone where they could challenge the conventional look of their industry sector.

Wondering around their yards I found bins full of off cuts of all these wonderful metals, where in cutting the rods or cylinders, the insides had become amazingly burnished and beautiful and where the company saw scrap pieces I saw the most wonderful shapes and textures and reflective surfaces and thought, why don’t we use these off cuts to create artworks in their own right.

So, I thought, why not just lay a massive 3m x 3m piece of backdrop paper on the floor and then lay out all these different offcuts and scrap pieces into amazing geometric three-dimensional patterns of shape, reflection, shadow and light.

In my minds eye I could see the end result, but while I am an artist when I have a camera in my hand I am not great in other mediums…. That is why I have someone like Emily as my business partner, a new media, design specialist and photographer. She came on site and between us we created four three dimensional pieces of art in Bronze, Copper, Brass and Iron and then hanging off a high platform I photographed from above as single gigantic flat lays. Then we started moving around them and shooting from different angled exploring the shapes and forms we had created and from something that the client perceived as bland raw products and a slightly crazy idea, generated a set of wonderfully creative and artistic images in what became one of my favourite shoots of the year.

Catalogue style product photography is of course very necessary and has its place in your marketing and sales mix, but if you need some product shots done pause for a moment, find the right photographer, listen to where they might think about taking the concepts and you might find that some amazing things can be created on modest budgets that transcends the simple “this is what you get” and provides a range of images that can be used through multiple marketing channels and create that extra little bit of magic around your brand.

Whether we are shooting a new action camera or a lump of metal, we always try and think beyond the box…..

Personalised Fitness Branding with F45 Mackay: Unique Content Creation for your business

IMAGERY

Grabbing the attention  of NEW and existing customers in an instant!

The imagery you use to market yourself will often be the first contact your potential customers will have with you and your brand. Those potential customers will draw lasting conclusions about you and your services/products from those images and since first impressions are lasting impressions, getting that introduction right is critical.

But to be truly impactful, those images must communicate and uphold your brand identity and core values immediately and at first glance. In a crowded marketplace identifying photographers who can achieve both stunning images and effectively communicate brand values is critical. Moving from ‘stock photography’ imagery to personalised lifestyle and commercial imagery for your business is the first step to improving your business branding.

In addition, creating strong imagery that promotes your core values and is customised to your business also creates great social media content that your existing customers will be proud to associate themselves with and will in turn share to their communities, extending the reach of your online and offline marketing tactics.

We worked with the team at F45 Mackay creating personalised fitness lifestyle imagery communicating their brand identity, culture and fun environment.

Owners Lee & Kim wanted to capture their trainers, members and the atmosphere of their business with ‘real-life’ imagery. After taking the time to get to know the brand and it’s values we set up a series of “staged” images and worked in a documentary style during live training sessions to create a set of images unique to f45 Mackay and to Lee and Kim. These are now an integral part of their social media, website and off-line marketing. See their images below.

Roma Airport Runway Resurfacing Project - Fulton Hogan: Time Lapse Video Project

ROMA AIRPORT RUNWAY RESURFACING PROJECT - Fulton Hogan: Time Lapse Video Project

Some jobs are just special right from the word go.  From the first conversation with the client you know it’s going to be epic.

Like when a client calls and says: “….so, this runway in a rural Queensland town is getting resurfaced over 30 days or so but all the work has to be done at night and every morning each night’s work has to seamlessly blend with the existing runway so that the airport can re-open and the runway can operate as per normal each day.

So every night we have to scrape off the top layer of a section, flatten it, seal all the cracks, resurface it, roll it smooth, re paint all line markings and then clear the area of all equipment and debris so the first plane of the day can land. Now we need a film that can capture every stage of the process, filmed at night and feature airport operations during the day and be around the 2 minute mark. What do you think….”

What do I think? I think that sounds epic.

WELCOME TO THE ROMA AIRPORT RESURFACING PROJECT

Client: Cross Copywriting representing both Fulton Hogan and Maranoa Regional Council

Brief: Create an approx. 2 min film showing all aspects of the resurfacing work and the importance of the airport to the regional community.

End use: General marketing material and historical record.

Required:  Two trips out to the rural hub of Roma, three-night shifts and two-day shifts (the longest being 18 hours straight), two staff, nine separate cameras including three go pros, 280gb of B-roll footage and 21,000 still frames for time-lapse segments.

Every job presents particular challenges to overcome. The Roma project was particularly interesting. Not only were there the “normal” safety issues of working around some seriously large plant and equipment in constant motion but also the added risks of working around them at night and the technical difficulties of filming and photographing fast moving objects in low light.

During the day our set pieces were relaxed as were shown round the airport by airport manager Ben Stewart and his friendly team. Taking time to work out angles and stage our shots.

The night time job was a completely different story. The Fulton Hogan team were working to incredibly tight deadlines and it was made very politely and equally firmly clear from the start that nothing could be done to interrupt or hold up any work as everyone had a great big clock in their heads counting down the time to the first aircraft coming in to land in the morning…. An operational deadline that could not be held up for anyone.

The answer? Bring loads of cameras and set them up running all round the works area so that at any one time we are filming two or three b-roll pieces, having Go-pros rigged on vehicles capturing driver-eye views of the evening while another three cameras work on static and slider based time-lapse pieces… then throughout the night we run around breaking down and resetting everything for the next set of shots.

For us it was a non-stop, slightly manic job with little down time as the Fulton Hogan team professionally, systematically and efficiently smashed through their work.

But despite all the cameras and gear we had with us, our greatest asset for the job was simply the people we were working with. Namely Philippa Cross of Cross Copywriting whose agency was the central point of contact for managing and matching our work to the desires and needs of the two end clients, Fulton Hogan and Maranoa Regional Council, and of course the attitude of the men and women of the Fulton Hogan and Roma Airport teams.

Yes they were extremely busy and under a great deal of pressure but every one of them was also as helpful as they could be. Ready to assist whenever we needed it and incredibly welcoming to the point that even though we were the interlopers dropping in and buzzing around like annoying mosquitos at a barbeque they instantly made us feel like an integral part of their team. Making a hectic job that much easier.

This job was amazing and memorable in so many ways. Being Brisbane based commercial photographers it’s good to get out and about in regional Queensland. Watching the way the FH team worked liked a well-oiled machine. The incredible logistical challenges of the job for everyone involved and the resulting piece of film that we achieved.

But for me the greatest memories that I take away from this job are the working relationships forged over the project and the wonderfully warm, cohesive team spirit that was shown across the board from everyone involved. Those more than anything else made this job simply epic.

Somersby's Polo in the City Sponsorship - Brisbane Event Photography

SOMERSBY'S POLO IN THE CITY SPONSORSHIP

Client: Somersby Cider

Event: Polo in the City, Brisbane

Brief: Capture the mood of the day, attendees enjoying the event with Somersby’s products, the on field action and Somersby’s VIP guests

LP Staff: Single Photographer

Equipment: Four Canon Cameras, two set up for socials and general event coverage and two Eos 1’s with super telephotos for capturing sporting action on the field.

Special request: On site processing and delivery required to allow social media influencers present as VIP guests to have a range of shots to issue of themselves and the event immediately to various social media outlets.

Event photography is an area of our business I love.

While we are a Brisbane corporate and commercial photography business we are lucky enough to have clients that would prefer to fly us to their events across Australia than risk using photographers they don’t know or have no experience working with.

Having such a varied client list means we get to experience so many different industries and learn so much. Sometimes you hear world class speakers talk about things you had never even considered, other times you get to hear fellow small businesses talk about their successes and get to take that information away with you to help shape your own business journey.

Sometimes you just get to be involved in an utterly amazing spectacle and have a great day out doing what you love, taking photographs.

One such job was covering Somersby’s involvement in the Polo in the City event in Brisbane.

There are few things as pleasurable as a balmy and sunny day in Brisbane, good drinks, good company and a fantastic and exciting sport to watch.

There was also a lot of hard work ensuring all aspects of the day was captured and the steps counter on my watch told me I had a very good day as I constantly walked the arena capturing all the action on field and off but what a brilliant day with a wonderful client and a truly great spectacle.

Cocktail Madness - Brisbane Food & Drink Photography

What do you get when you gather together some of the best cocktail bar staff in Australia? One hell of a cocktail competition and an even better photoshoot.

As regular contributors to Bars and Club's magazine LP Commercial's Andrew Jarvie would spend hours in the company of some of the greatest mixologists in Australia an the world photographing (and sampling) their creations.... sometimes work is not all that hard...

Sponsorship Success - Emirates relationship

As part of an ongoing relationship with Emirate Airlines, Life Portrait's Andrew Jarvie would be on hand whenever the airline announced its continuing sponsorship of Collingwood AFL.

Aussie V8's Abroad with The United Arab Emirates - Capturing this journey

In February 2010 Australian V8 racing cars journeyed to The United Arab Emirates for the first time.

The logistics of moving an entire Australian racing category half way around the world for one race meet was staggering. Critical to the venture was one late night in Melbourne when the cars from every race team were loaded into an Emirates Cargo Boeing 747.

LP Commercial's Andrew Jarvie was booked by Emirates to capture the moment. The shoot was a tricky night time affair on the apron of Melbourne Airport. With refuelling planes all around no flash lighting was allowed so the whole shoot had to be managed in available light.

Being a definite petrol head, watching some of Australia's most powerful racing cars load onto a single aircraft is something Andrew will remember for a long time to come.

From Little Things, Big Things Grow - Acciona Energy

A few years ago Andy received a call... a friend of  a client had a small job she needed photographed near Ballarat, a turf cutting ceremony for a new building venture.

The venture turned out to be the start of construction of what was at the time the largest wind-farm in the southern hemisphere by Acciona Energy.

The "quick job" turned into three years of work recording the growth of the development and included the creation of a time lapse film that condensed some three years of building work into a matter of minutes as well as thousands of images documenting a truly awe-inspiring project.

Re-inventing A Venue: Helm Bar Food & Drink Imagery - Brisbane Advertising & Marketing Photography

When a venue re-invets itself there is nothing like a good set of atmospheric interior, food and drink images for traditional and social media exploitation to reset people's opinions and present the new look.

Converting a former sports club bar into the chic and friendly Helm Bar Gold Coast bar and restaurant saw just such a dramatic change and Andy was called in to capture both the food and drink on offer but also the the stylish and welcoming atmosphere of the venue.

Dare2tri sporting wear

Triathlon is one of the most challenging sports out there with athletes specialising in multi disciplines including one of the most exhausting.... the ocean swim.

As it turns out its one of the most gruelling sports we've been involved in capturing as well. Brisbane-based sportswear company Dare2Tri commissioned us to photograph a range of images for website exploitation and social media marketing.

After working through the brief with them we agreed that a combination of shots showing the wetsuits and clothing in all their glory in static posed shots would be required but so would a range of powerful action shots showing the clothing and athletes putting themselves to the test against the elements.

Breaking out the dive housings Andy plunged into the ocean alongside internationally famed Tri-athelete and former Australian team member Flic Abraham to catch all the action.

Sometimes It's Nice To Say Thanks: Rafter & Rose Ipswich - Brisbane Food & Drink Photography

Its always nice just to be able to say thanks to a fellow small business.

Rafter and Rose in the heart of Ipswich is a truly beautiful small family run cafe where everything is fresh baked and delicious.

Emily and I were regulars while we operated a studio from across the road and soon became friends of the owners which led toilets of free treats and "try this and that" moments.

So it was nice to be able to return the favour doing a food and drink photoshoot for them with images being used for social media content and genera marketing.

If you ever find yourself in Ipswich its a must visit.... and trust me, the bacon jam is to die for!!
